It was isolated from the aerial parts of peperomia pellucida, a plant that is native to Brazil. 5,8,4'-Trihydroxy-7-methoxyflavone 8-o-glucoside has been shown to inhibit the growth of cells in culture and induce apoptosis in some cancer cell lines. This compound also inhibits the synthesis of DNA and RNA by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.
