Solithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic with bactericidal activity. It has been shown to be effective against drug-resistant strains of gram-positive bacteria. It has been shown to bind to the ribosomal protein genes and inhibit protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria. Solithromycin also inhibits the growth of resistant mutants by preventing the production of new proteins. The time-concentration curve for solithromycin shows that it is rapidly absorbed in humans, reaching peak concentrations within 1 hour after oral administration. Solithromycin is excreted unchanged in urine and bile, with a half-life of about 2 hours. This drug can also cause drug interactions with cyclosporin or tacrolimus, leading to increased blood levels and toxicity, as well as chemoattractant protein CXCL8 (also known as KC). Solithromycin's human pharmacokinetics have not been fully elucidated; however, it may be used for treatment of infectious
