Lometrexol hydrate is an inhibitor of the enzyme thymidylate synthase, which is involved in DNA synthesis. Lometrexol hydrate has also been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by blocking the activity of certain kinases, leading to apoptosis (cell death). This drug is available as an analog and can be detected in urine samples.
