The activated material will readily bind free sulfhydryl groups present in solution.KLH is a highly antigenic protein with a high molecular mass (4.5 x 105 - 1.3 x 107 Daltons, in aggregates of 350 and 390 kDa subunits) that elicits a strong immune response when used to immunize animals.As many as 400 moles of Cysteine-containing peptide can bind to one mole of maleimide-activated KLH.
