Description:ORM-3819 is a novel cardiac drug that increases the force of contraction and the rate of relaxation in the heart. It was discovered as an endogenous compound in porcine heart tissue, which led to its synthesis and evaluation as a therapeutic agent for treatment of cardiovascular disease. ORM-3819 has been shown to increase cardiac contractility, induce hyperpolarization, and reduce systolic pressure in animal models. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy assays have also shown that it does not affect cardiac function or myocardial perfusion. The mechanism of action is not yet known, but may be due to natriuretic effects on muscle cells.
