Amitifadine is a small molecule that inhibits protein interactions and has been used as a research tool. It has been shown to bind to the extracellular domain of the beta-2 adrenergic receptor, which is responsible for binding with endogenous catecholamines such as epinephrine and norepinephrine. Amitifadine also binds to the alpha-1 adrenergic receptor, but not as strongly. This drug has also been shown to bind to other receptors such as the angiotensin II type 1 receptor, serotonin type 3A receptor, and histamine H1 receptor.
