Luciferin-caprylate has been shown to be an excellent substrate for bioluminescence, fluorescence, and chemiluminescence reactions. The light generated by this reaction can be detected using a photomultiplier tube or luminometer, which can then be used to detect substances such as bacteria, protozoa, or fungi.
