8-Shogaol is a phenolic compound found in ginger. It has been shown to have anti-platelet activity in vitro and in vivo, as well as an effect on mitochondrial cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes. 8-Shogaol interacts with human liver cells, inhibiting the activities of CYP2C9, CYP2D6, and CYP3A4. 8-Shogaol is also able to interact with hl-60 cells and matrix effects through hydrogen bonding. 8-Shogaol may be used as an analytical method for assessing enzyme inhibitors by using surface methodology.
