Product Information
- 2-Iodobenzo[b]thiophene
- Benzo[b]thiophene, 2-iodo-
- 2-Iodo-1-benzothiophene
2-Iodobenzothiophene is a phenyl compound with acidic properties. The molecule has two phenyl groups, which are electron withdrawing groups. These groups can be used to form a picolinic acid derivative that has been shown to inhibit the uptake of 2-iodobenzothiophene. 2-Iodobenzothiophene is also used as an inhibitor of locomotor activity in rats and mice, via its ability to block the uptake of 2-iodobenzothiophene. This process was found to be mediated by terminal alkynes on the aromatic ring and was dependent on functionalities at other positions on the ring. The reaction mechanism for this process is reductive elimination from an organometallic intermediate, followed by alkylation of carbon-carbon bonds.
