5-Aminoquinolin-2(1H)-one is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to have antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. The structure of 5-aminoquinolin-2(1H)-one is a carboxylic acid with a hydrogen atom on the alpha carbon, which gives it an alkylamino group and amino group. The tautomeric form of this compound is a quinolinate ester. 5-Aminoquinolin-2(1H)-one has been shown to be effective against drug resistant bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This drug also inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis at low concentrations.
