Demethoxycapillarisin is a chemical compound that has been shown to have hypoglycemic activity in vivo. It has been found to cause insulin resistance in muscle tissue, as well as demethylation of the insulin receptor gene in muscle cells. Demethoxycapillarisin has also been shown to have antidiabetic effects by reducing glucose levels and improving insulin sensitivity. The mechanism of action for this drug is not yet known, but it may be due to its ability to reduce the amount of phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) and increase the level of ATP and glycogen content in muscle tissue. Demethoxycapillarisin also reduces the amount of 5-o-caffeoylquinic acid (5CQA), which is an antioxidant found in plants and fruits such as green tea, coffee, apples, grapes, pears and plums.
