Adenanthin is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Adenanthin has been found to be effective in vitro against reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced by radiation, hydrogen peroxide, or ultraviolet light. Adenanthin also inhibits the growth of leukemic cells in mice and inhibits the development of brain tumors in malignant brain cells. It was also found that adenanthin is a potent inhibitor of NF-κB activation, which may be one of its mechanisms for inhibiting inflammation.
