2-Butyl-6-nitro-1,3-benzoxazole is a potent anticonvulsant agent. It has been shown to increase the latency of seizure onset and to prolong the duration of electroshock seizures in mice, with an effective dose of 50 mg/kg intraperitoneally. The maximal anticonvulsant effect was obtained at doses between 10 and 20 mg/kg, with a potency similar to that of carbamazepine. This substance has also been shown to be effective against pentylenetetrazole-, subcutaneous-, and median-induced convulsions in mice at doses between 10 and 20 mg/kg.
