MBX-4132 is an antibiotic that belongs to the class of oxazolidinones. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the ribosomal 50S subunit. MBX-4132 has shown bactericidal effects against a variety of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including resistant strains. MBX-4132 is being developed for the treatment of respiratory and urinary tract infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and for meningococcal disease. This drug also has shown preclinical efficacy in preventing influenza virus infection in animal models. In addition, it has been shown to have potent protective activity against rotavirus infection in mice.
