Product Information
Aplaviroc is a small molecule that blocks the CCR5 receptor. It is used to treat HIV infection, as well as other diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and others. Aplaviroc binds to the CCR5 receptor with high affinity and inhibits the binding of the natural ligand (CCL3) with high potency. The pharmacology of aplaviroc is related to its ability to block ion channels in a cell's membrane. This inhibition prevents the release of inflammatory molecules and slows down the progression of HIV infection by preventing viral entry into cells. Aplaviroc has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of HIV-1 replication in vitro and in vivo and has been approved for use in treating HIV-1 infection.
