It is used as an initiator for the polymerization of galactose monomers. 6AIDOGAL reacts with azide or diazo compounds to form a cycloaddition reaction and can be used to prepare copolymers by reacting with other monomers such as D-glucose. The temperature range for this reaction is between 20°C and 100°C. This compound has been shown to form stable complexes with Cu(II) ions at temperatures below 0°C.
