It has been shown to be hydrolyzed by intestinal enzymes and to have an optimum pH of 5.5. b-L-Arabinopyranose also has a high degree of polymerization (DP) and can form five-membered rings with galactans as well as terminal residues that are resistant to hydrolysis by carbon tetrachloride.
