2-Amino-2-deoxy-D-fucose is a sugar molecule that is found in the cell wall of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus. It may be used to treat microbial infections by binding to bacterial cell walls and causing them to lose their ability to adhere to host cells. This sugar molecule may also be effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 2-Amino-2-deoxy-D-fucose has been shown to inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa in vitro by inhibiting the synthesis of fatty acids and increasing the production of hydrogen fluoride, which leads to cell death.
