2-Azido-2-deoxy-3,5-di-O-tert-butylsimethyl-D-xylitol is a monosaccharide with the molecular formula C8H12N2O6. It is an important intermediate for the synthesis of saccharides and oligosaccharides. A major application of 2AA2DTBSX is in the modification of complex carbohydrates such as polysaccharides and glycoproteins. This carbohydrate can be fluorinated to produce 2-(azido)-2-(deoxy) -3,5-(di)O-(tert) butylsulfonylmethyl -D-xylitol. 2AA2DTBSX can also be methylated to produce 2-[(methylthio)methyl]-2,3,5,6 tetraiodo -D-xylitol.
