It is a modification of the natural product methylated L -rhamnosyl-(1→2)-D -talonolactone. 4-Azido-4,6-dideoxy-2,3-O-isopropylidene D -talono 1,5 lactone has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex bacteria.
