It is synthesized from 5-(azidomethyl)-5'-deoxyfuranose by methylation and glycosylation followed by click modification. 5-(Azidomethyl)-5'-deoxyfuranose can be synthesized from L-(+)-glyceraldehyde and methyl azide in the presence of sodium hydride via a sequence of reactions involving hydrolysis, reduction, and hydrogenation.
