Description:Rhenium Disulfide is a stable, high-melting elemental metal with a low vapor pressure. It can be synthesized by the reduction of rhenium oxide with hydrogen sulfide at elevated temperatures. Rhenium disulfide is an excellent absorber of infrared light and has been used to prepare samples for transmission electron microscopy. Rhenium disulfide also has heterostructures that are capable of absorbing light in the visible range. In addition, rhenium disulfide has monolayers that can be grown on surfaces, which have been shown to have excellent optical properties. Finally, rhenium disulfide is highly resistant to chemical reactions and has been used as a solid dispersion in polymers.
