Scandium oxide (Sc2O3) is a solid inorganic compound that has the chemical formula Sc2O3. Scandium oxide is a white, crystalline, and electrically insulating material. It is insoluble in water but soluble in acids or alkali solutions. Scandium oxide reacts with oxygen to produce scandia (Sc), which can be used as a dopant for silicon (Si) and germanium (Ge). Scandium oxide is used as a catalyst in the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polystyrene. It also has been used to manufacture semiconductor devices such as transistors. Scandium oxide also has a high melting point, which makes it ideal for use as an inert substance in the production of fireworks. Scandium(III) oxide can be produced by reacting bromide with nitrate at temperatures between 600-1000°C. This process produces scandia gas, which can then react
