Tungsten diselenide is a semiconductor material that can be synthesized from molybdenum and tungsten. It has been shown to emit light when excited. The low-intensity light emission can be used as a model system for the study of light transport properties. Tungsten diselenide is chemically stable, with good electrical properties, and is able to dissolve in solvents like chloroform, ethanol, or acetone. This material is also an excellent candidate for use in analytical chemistry due to its lack of interference with other chemical reactions. Tungsten diselenide has also been used as a model system for the synthesis of boron nitride, which has similar structural properties.
