• Description: Insulin is a hormone that regulates the metabolism of glucose in the body. Insulin is produced by beta cells in the pancreas and released into the blood following a meal. The insulin binds to receptors on cells, causing them to take up glucose from blood for energy or storage. When there is insufficient insulin, glucose builds up in the bloodstream and causes an increase in blood sugar levels.
