Product Information
Flagellin is a protein that is used by bacteria to move. It has been shown to be an important virulence factor in the infectious disease Salmonella Typhimurium. Flagellin binds to the histidine-rich regions of mammalian cells and triggers the production of molecules that activate Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) on macrophages, leading to inflammation. Flagellin has also been shown to have immunomodulatory effects, which may be due to its ability to bind insulin receptors and block the insulin signalling pathway. This can lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Flagellin has also been shown to inhibit influenza virus replication in vitro and in vivo, as well as stimulate B cell proliferation.
