PCB No. 18 is a polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) that has been shown to be an endocrine disrupting chemical. PCB No. 18 is activated by diode or cavity and is used in human serum sample preparation for chromatographic science. This chemical has been found to have genotoxic potential, which may be due to its ability to bind covalently with DNA, RNA, and proteins. Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to PCB No. 18 in their food at concentrations of 0, 200, 400, 1000 mg/kg/day for 13 weeks and the dry weight of the liver was measured at the end of the experiment. PCB No. 18 also showed dose-dependent uptake into rat tissues (liver, fat tissue) and caused some degree of hepatic injury as evidenced by increased levels of cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver
