Corilagin is a natural compound that has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth and induce apoptosis. Corilagin inhibits the production of anion radicals, which are reactive species that contribute to oxidative stress and inflammation. Corilagin also has an anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. In addition, corilagin induces autophagy, a process where cells degrade their own components through the lysosomal machinery in order to generate energy and eliminate toxic substances. Corilagin is also able to reduce cellular transformation through its ability to inhibit secretase activity.
