Cirsimarin is a natural compound that has been identified as a potent antioxidant. Cirsimarin scavenges anion radicals and exhibits hypoglycemic effects. It also has significant cytotoxicity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species and increase glutathione levels. The biological properties of cirsimarin are related to its ability to scavenge anion radicals, inhibit lipid peroxidation, and inhibit the activity of enzymes such as lipase and phospholipase. This compound has also been shown to possess genotoxic activity in mammalian cells by inducing DNA damage, chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatid exchange, and micronuclei formation. Cirsimarin has been shown to have receptor-mediated anti-inflammatory effects in adipose tissue by inhibiting protein kinase C (PKC) activity.
