Corchoionoside C is a protocatechuic acid derivative that belongs to the group of sesquiterpene lactones. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity in tissue culture and biological studies. Corchoionoside C is also an inhibitor of 3-o-caffeoylquinic acid, which is the major phenolic acid in coffee beans. Corchoionoside C has been shown to inhibit lipid peroxidation, which may be due to its ability to reduce reactive oxygen species. This compound has been found to be metabolized by fatty acid conjugation and glycoside formation, leading to the formation of 3-o-caffeoylquinic acid.
