Product Information
3,4,5-Trichlorophthalic acid is a chlorinated aromatic compound that is used in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is also used as a reactive intermediate in organic synthesis. 3,4,5-Trichlorophthalic acid is produced by the chlorination of phthalic anhydride with chlorine and sodium chloride or potassium chloride. The n-oxide form of the compound can be synthesized by reacting 3,4,5-trichlorophthalic acid with sodium nitrite and dimethyl sulfate. 3,4,5-Trichlorophthalic acid can be purified by gel permeation chromatography. This process involves dissolving the sample in an organic solvent such as carbon tetrachloride or benzene and then running it through a column filled with porous material that has been coated with a thin film of styrene. The compounds are retained on the column based on their different molecular weights.
