Adamantane-1,3-dicarbonitrile is a reagent that can be used for the synthesis of adamantane derivatives. It is extracted from coal tar or petroleum and has the chemical formula C5H6N2. Adamantane-1,3-dicarbonitrile reacts with ethylenediamine to form adamantane via a monoaddition reaction. The cyclic structure of adamantane is formed by six-membered ring formation in which two carbon atoms are linked by an alternating single and double bond.
