6,7-Dichloro-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-2-carboxylic acid (6,7-DDBFCA) is a carboxylic acid with a menthol taste and hypotensive properties. It is also an enantiomer of 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-2-carboxylic acid. 6,7-DDBFCA is soluble in water and it has high yield for esterification reactions. 6,7-DDBFCA can be hydrolyzed to menthyl which is used in the synthesis of menthol.
