Description:1-Deoxy-1-nitro-L-mannitol is an irreversible inhibitor of the enzyme mannitol dehydrogenase. It also inhibits other enzymes, such as L-arabinose isomerase and L-azide amidohydrolase, which are involved in the biosynthesis of arabinose and azide. The synthesis of 1-deoxy-1 nitro mannitol can be achieved through a one step reaction with hydroxide and l-arabinose (or l-xylose) in the presence of carbonate or sulfate. This product can be used in syntheses of amphoteric compounds.
