4-Deoxy-4-fluoro-D-glucopyranose is a fluorinated sugar that is found in the roots of Glycyrrhiza uralensis. It can inhibit glycosylation by blocking the stepwise addition of glucose to the growing oligosaccharide chain. 4-Deoxy-4-fluoro-D-glucopyranose also has biological activities, such as antiinflammatory and antitumor properties. This compound is an analog of D-arabinose and D-xylulose, which are found in many plants. 4DFG can be used to synthesize glycosides with various substituents on the hydroxyl group.
