Daidzin is a natural flavonoid that belongs to the group of isoflavones. It has been shown to have a hypoglycemic effect in vitro and in vivo, which is due to its ability to inhibit binding of the coumarin derivatives and daidzein (another member of the isoflavone family) to the alpha-glucosidase enzyme. This binding prevents hydrolysis of glucose into glucose-6-phosphate, leading to less production of glucose in the body. Daidzin also inhibits cancer cell growth and brain functions by hydrogen bonding interactions with proteins. Daidzin can be used as an analytical method for pharmacological agents.
