- D-fructose, 1-deoxy-
1-Deoxy-D-fructose is a sugar that is found in plants. It has been shown to stimulate insulin release from the pancreas and regulate glucose levels. 1-Deoxy-D-fructose has been used as a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. 1-Deoxy-D-fructose is not metabolized by cells, but is taken up by cells and reacts with reactive oxygen species (ROS) to produce hydrogen peroxide. This reaction may be responsible for the biological effects of 1-deoxy-d-fructose.
