Description:Bis(p-methylbenzylidene)sorbitol is an organic solvent that has been used in a variety of applications, including polyolefin production, as an additive for plastics, and as a surface treatment for metals. Bis(p-methylbenzylidene)sorbitol also has been used to reduce the weight of paper and textiles. It is synthesized by the reaction of vinyl alcohol with dibenzylidene sorbitol in the presence of base. Bis(p-methylbenzylidene)sorbitol can be identified by its crystalline structure, which consists of three molecules of glucose linked together. Bis(p-methylbenzylidene)sorbitol is a colorless liquid that has no odor or taste and it has a low viscosity. This chemical is also soluble in organic solvents such as benzene or ethylene glycol ethers.
