• Description: 2-(3,4-Dihydroxyphenyl)ethyl b-D-glucopyranoside (2,3,4-DHPEB) is a naturally occurring phenolic acid. It has been shown to have antidepressant activity in mice and rats. 2,3,4-DHPEB inhibits the growth of Streptococcus faecalis by inhibiting fatty acid biosynthesis. This compound also has anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. 2,3,4-DHPEB is a ligand for PPAR receptors and activates their transcriptional activity in cells. It has been shown to have chemopreventive effects against colon cancer cell lines and is able to induce apoptosis in tumor cells.
