It inhibits the proliferation of human cervical carcinoma cells as well as skin cancer cells, and it can also inhibit the uptake of glucose in insulin-stimulated cells. 6-Hydroxyrubiadin has been shown to inactivate mitochondrial respiration and induce pro-inflammatory cytokines such as annexin A1 and IL8. This compound has not yet been tested for its effects on animals or humans.
