Product Information
Obolactone is a natural compound that has been isolated from the leaves of the African plant, Garcinia kola. It is an enolate and allylation product of benzyl esters and lactones. Obolactone has apoptotic activity against various cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. In addition, it inhibits the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting NF-κB signaling pathways. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, as evidenced by its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. The asymmetric synthesis of obolactone was achieved using chalcones as a starting material for the synthesis of this natural product. The chemical structure is characterized using spectroscopic data analysis, which showed that obolactone belongs to the class of chalcones with two lactam rings.
