Product Information
3-Epialexine is a novel small molecule that inhibits sucrase, the enzyme responsible for cleaving glucose from sucrose. 3-Epialexine binds to the active site of this enzyme, preventing d-glucose from binding and being broken down. This leads to an accumulation of d-glucose in the intestinal lumen and could be used as a lead compound for the development of drugs to treat diabetes. The diversity of microorganisms can be screened for sucrase activity by using 3-epialexine as a lead compound.
