Description:

GR 64349 is a non-selective cation channel blocker that binds to the voltage-dependent calcium channels in mammalian cells. It inhibits the influx of calcium ions into these cells, which may lead to an antiemetic effect by reducing the release of acetylcholine and histamine from nerve terminals in the brain stem. GR 64349 has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on autoimmune diseases, such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis. Clinical trials are underway for GR 64349 as a potential treatment for bladder dysfunction in patients with spinal cord injury.
