Product Information

Name:
2(5H)-Furanone
Description:

2(5H)-Furanone is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity. It blocks the production of endothelin-a, which is a potent vasoconstrictor, by binding to the endothelin-a receptor. 2(5H)-Furanone also inhibits nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in macrophages. This inhibition may be due to its ability to inhibit oxidative stress and caspase-independent cell death. 2(5H)-Furanone is an effective analgesic for bowel disease and has been shown to induce significant cytotoxicity in tumor cells in vitro. The mechanism of action of this drug is not fully understood; however, it appears that it acts as an agonist at the response element on polymerase chain reactions (PCR).
