3-Acetyl-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole is an oleum that is obtained by nitrating 3,4-dimethylphenol with a mixture of conc. sulfuric acid and fuming nitric acid. It can be used to produce the anhydride of benzene and other aromatic compounds. 3-Acetyl-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole has also been used as a reagent for the preparation of 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9-octahydroazulene from 1,3,5,7-tetrahydroazulene.
