Description:Galactostatin is a protein synthesis inhibitor that binds to the l-tartaric acid site of the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit. It inhibits the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosome, preventing translation and inhibiting cell growth. Galactostatin has been shown to be effective against HIV infection in mammalian cells. This drug also has a chaperone effect that protects cells from heat or cold stress.
