Iron sucrose is a sucrose-iron complex that is administered intravenously for the treatment of bowel disease and iron deficiency. Iron sucrose has been shown to have potent inducers of oxidative injury, which may be due to the formation of reactive oxygen species. Iron sucrose has also been shown to increase cellular transformation and congestive heart failure in mice. Long-term toxicity studies have not been conducted.
