Description:
3,4:5,6-Di-O-Isopropylidene-D-glycero-L-guloheptitol is a synthetic glycosylate that is used as a molecular probe for glycosyltransferases. It can be fluorinated at the 3, 4, and 6 positions to produce 3,4:5,6-DiFluoro-D-glycero-L-guloheptitol. This product is made by reacting glycerol with glyceraldehyde in the presence of sodium borohydride in an acid medium. The resulting product is purified by crystallization.
