Description:PFK-158 is a novel compound with potent antimicrobial activity that inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting mitochondrial membrane potential and reducing the synthesis of ATP. PFK-158 has been shown to be effective against antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria in vitro, including colistin resistant Gram-negative bacteria such as Acinetobacter baumannii. This drug also has been shown to suppress tumor growth in vivo and inhibit cancer cell proliferation. PFK-158 has pharmacokinetic properties that are favorable for oral administration and it does not appear to have any toxicity in animals.
