Suc-Ile-Ile-Trp-MCA is a peptide that is used as a research tool to study protein interactions and receptor function. This peptide can be used to inhibit ion channels and act as an activator of certain proteins. Suc-Ile-Ile-Trp-MCA binds to the N terminus of the alpha subunit of the G protein, which has been shown to activate the enzyme adenylate cyclase. It also binds to other receptors, such as the beta 2 adrenergic receptor in erythrocytes that leads to increased levels of cAMP. The selectivity for these binding sites is not yet known.
